Crunches or ab exercises work your muscles but you must lose the fat on your stomach with cardio.

Listen: you need to do 200 minutes of cardio a week. Remember fat does not turn into muscle, so you need to lose your fat while putting on muscle. The 45 minute thing is not true, but don't over 60 minutes at a time.

Do 5-10 minutes of cardio to warm up, then do your weight training. Do 30 to 60 minutes more of cardio, then go home.

The best time to eat is just after your workout within an hour when your metabolism is raging. For your muscles, incorporate some isolated soy protein or whey protein. Whey is more potent but the soy tastes better!

Don't look at your scale as the be all and end all, but get a measuring tape to check your progress, and that will show more tangible results.

Good luck and stick at it.

Crunches will build stomach muscles and give you some burn in calories. But it will only improve the look of your stomach if there is no fat covering it. In order to get that ripped or very tone look you must lose all the fat surrounding it and to do that you need cardio. Once the fat is gone you can do crunches or ab exercises and they will give you the definition you are looking for.

I would take an hour each day and do the following exercises:

* 30 crunches and then do some work on your back. Its important to do your back as if you don't, your stomach muscles start pulling the back muscle's and you end up with an arched back, so you need to even it out. You can do this by laying on the floor on your stomach, then pulling up with your arms and legs. You wont get very far but it is effective.

* 'Thai Sit ups' this is where you keep your legs straight on the floor come up a third of the way and then push your elbow's to your ribs, repeat for 2 mins. I find these very effective if done right.

* Also another method i find effective is to pull you legs as near as your body as possible and hold it there for 2mins, with your hands laid in an X position across your chest. Extremely hard and tiring gives great results!

As well as exercises I'm sure your aware of diet and nutrition, i personally don't believe in diets, just eating as healthy as you can whilst doing exercise.

I find Thai boxing a very very effective way of keeping fit and healthy, in my lesson, i do a warm consisting of hopping on one leg and so on. Then go onto stretching, learn a technique, go on the pads and get out aggression then a series of excersises to follow, i.e. crunches, thai sit ups, leg raises, press ups, and squats.

Hope this helps :)

you said it .. it doesnt really help. To lose your belly you need to do cardio vascular excercises, such as jogging, running, swimming, biking. or any excercise that would increase your heart beat rate.

Crunches will develop the muscles, but i wont burn the fat
