In long division, you may get remainders. Usually, you keep dividing until you get a whole solution. This is done by placing a decimal point where you start getting remainders.

However, sometimes, the last digits are repeating or they go on forever. In that case, dividing until you get about four digits after the decimal point is the best solution.

For example, if you had to divide 22 by 7, it would look like this:

22/7=3.14285...

Simply put the REMAINDER as the Numerator of a Fraction and add it to the Total e.g.

26/5 = 5 + 1/5

i.e 5 I/5 or In decimal notation 5.2

If however, you are talking about 1753/17 or any larger numbers then you should have made this clear.

With the limitations of 'Answers' mathematical notation this would be difficult to explain.

However, if this is your problem it may be possible to Cut and Paste an example.

Depends how precise you want the answer. I'd guess as you've put this in engineering section, you want it quite precise!!

Put loads of .0000 on the remainder and keep dividing until you get it to the level you want.

so if it was 100 divided by 3, you'd be left with 33 and 1 left over. Change the 1 to 1.00 - divide that by 3 and your total answer becomes 33.33 etc.

Buy a calculator as well!!! Lot easier than trying to read my description!!

Simply place the remainder in a storage bin. When the bin fills, you can take the accumulated remainders and form a new problem!

Well it depends on what type of long division you are doing. There is long division in Pre-Calculus which you attempt to divide a function by another function.There is also long division in Algebra in which you divide two numbers. Look at the source for more information and better details.

Either put a point in or keep going, otherwise put the answer and remander down like this:

Try dividing till u reach a whole number or you get an answere in the form 33*1/3 then you convert it into decimal form manually to get 33.33.
You dont have to buy a calculater:)

Aprroximate it and round it off to the nearest value...For scientifical purposes may be approximation is made after having a long decimal for accuracy purpose...
