Well it is difficult to control your mind from unwanted thinking hence let it go.
Some people believe in yoga or meditation which helps them to control their mind better. Few simple techniques used are like drinking water and deep breathing, the rational behind that is that proper amount of water and oxygen helps maintain control over life, as water and oxygen are essential for living.
But It does not work for me so I try different technique.
The trick is in not to stop your mind from wondering but rather in regaining your focus on some thing you want to think or focus on. This way you don’t have to struggle hard from not letting your mind from wondering, and also you can focus on something you want to focus on.
It is difficult to always be in control of your mind as it happens very rarely and takes a lot of effort. But it is easy to let your mind wonder and then realizing quickly that you have wondered and you need to regain focus.
This works for me more effectively. Then again everyone is different and different techniques work for different people.
You will have to find what works for you.

What is unwanted thinking? If we are really aware of our thoughts you will find that most of your thoughts which are nothing but a replay of your memories from the past, a comparison of the present and the fast moving into the future is all unwanted and useless. But can you control your thinking. I think it is impossible. Thinking or flow of thoughts is basically our nature and you cannot exercise your control on it and do away with it. What we can and we should do is be alert and aware of our thoughts. Understand how our mind works. This understanding will ensure that you do not get carried away by your thoughts. You will know them for what they are, just thoughts and not reality. This will be as good as doing away with your thoughts and the arising tension and stress which these result in.

Self control is the key. Try Yoga and meditation. As per Hindu mythology the saints when in penance used these techniques to get rid of all thoughts other than of God...

thats really hard to do considering that ur mind is worse than ur outer self. think of it like this: the mind like glue. if u have something that you dont want then its gonna be hard taking it out. you can do other things to try and not think about it but its always gonna be there no mater what. the only solution is time. love is a perfect example of that. even if its good or bad its still glue. hope this helps.

Perhaps the "control" word is the real issue. I was once helped with this problem by learning to replace the thoughts with other thoughts. Just like giving up a bad habit - it helps to replace the old with something new (and better for you). :)

well all people told u about yoga and other things . and it really works. but i m telling u the hardest job. and if u can do it .trust me friend . u can do anything . for one minute don't think anything . keep your mind blank . in starting its hard to do for seconds . but keep practise . and this is the best key of self control and also some super natural powers

Hi!

Very simple...Feed it with the wanted thinking...

For example, if you don't want your mind to think that about "failure", think of people who won in certain aspects of life...If you want to think "life", avoid people who always speak death. If you want to think positive read books that talk positiveness...

If you read pornographic material and think it will not encourage your mind to fantasize having sex with other woman other than your wife,then forget it.

One material I would advice you to read is books which are based on the bible:

e.g. Fulfilling your purpose, Marriage and the bible itself.

You see, when you feel down and discouraged, the BIBLE would not TELL YOU TO KILL YOURSELF(IN THE MIND), but it will say:

Psalm 3:3-5

But you, O LORD, are a shield about me, my glory, and the lifter of my head.

I cried aloud to the LORD, and he answered me from his holy hill. Selah.

I lay down and slept; I woke again, for the LORD sustained me.

The MORE u do NOT wnat to think about something the MORE YOU WILL think about it ...

all this crap about meditation etc does not work ...

been there done that ...

so just chill dear !!
