they seem more concened with persecuting victims of crime and the motorist, rather than getting down and dirty and chasing car thieves, burglars etc who inflict more crimes which affect the majority of people.
Police stations are losing, and they are not interested in fighting for the masses and putting criminals away. Maybe the justice system is to blame, but the root of all evil here is the human rights act and the laughable excuse for a government we have.

No way, but i do feel dismayed at the public attitude towards the police, they try to do a job, then the courts and all the do-gooders make them look stupid. I mean, what is the point of nicking someone when they get let off with a slapped wrist. Well said migelito

I think the Police have a tough job, they are one of the few Police forces in the world that don't carry firearms, and yet face armed people all the time. Maybe there is too much admin work for them to cover there arses in these 'lawsuit happy' days too.
I do think that too much emphasis is put on how they pick on the Motorist, I have been driving since 1998 and I have no driving convictions (touch wood!) so it's down to the motorist breaking the law in the first place!

Any job that enables you to wear a uniform and have power over others will attract a certain kind of person. So there will always be a certain amount of undesirables in the police force. I have met both "good" and "bad" police officers just as in life you meet different type of people.
However my experience of Guetamalan police, Malaysian police and US cops has shown me that we do not have the worse in the world.
By the way I am not a criminal but I do seem to have a lot of dealings with the police!

You look around at other countries. We may not have the absolute best crime rate on the planet, but it's still pretty damn good and up there with the best of them.
There's still room for improvement however, but the UK police force is pretty good.
Media hype on this sort of issue is an absolute pain, they will do anything to flog a story and bad news sells big. Crime Statistics in the country are difficult to understand and can very much open to interpretation. Which the media does - with bias.

I don't feel secure with police like i used to they seem to be separated from the public and to find the police station locked at 10 pm each night really does amaze me. I feel the police should get back on the beat as they used to be and then perhaps the public would warm to them again. I still feel they have their hands tied when dealing with louts, I regard they are the finest police force in the western world

They do do a lot of good on a day-to-day basis - but they do a great deal of harm too and for my money make far too many mistakes and f**k up too many otherwise innocent lives.
But maybe ALL police forces all over the world do the same. I'm sure ours is no worse than anyone else's - But I do wish it was BETTER than all the rest.

I do because I am fed up of hearing that "there is nothing they can do". I heard it when my car was stolen, when my car was broken into, everytime we call them about some yobs harrassing a disabled friend of mine and everytime I have a group of yobs drinking and smashing bottles outside my front door!
I have lost all faith in the British police and justice system

Do you really mean just the police or do you mean the entire justice system?
Some cops are bad but most are very good and work very hard - only to get let down by the courts.
