I am stationed in South Korea and my wife is going to be moving out here with me and we have a 5 month old female Chihuahua and I want to know what vaccinations I need to get her before my wife brings her to South Korea. She is completely caught up on all of her shots as of right now. She is going to be getting her first rabies shot in the next week or so. I don't want my wife to bring our dog over here and have her get sick, or worse, because there was a vaccination that I didnt get for her. So if you could please let me know what shots is recommended for South Korea I would be very thankful. Thank you Joshua Hardman

This site is very informative about traveling to South Korea with your pets.. I don't know about the validity of either site, as they disagree..It would be best to call the local vets, in your area of S.K. > http://www.seoulsearching.com/livinginseoul/pets.html

I have experienced shipping a dog to Europe and know others that have as well. I can't advise on Korea specifically but I have learned that it is important to know where your pet's plane is going to be stopping over and ensuring that your dog qualifies there as well, if it is not a direct flight. Problems may occur in one of the stopover sites. Dogs shipped between European countries for example, sometimes end up with problems because their rabies vac suits one country and not another even if the dog is not going to be unloaded, it is physically in the other country and may be seized.

A potentially useful resource for advice as you get the requirements in line, is to contact breeders who ship dogs to and from Korea. I don't know any Jindo breeders myself, by they may be very helpful. Google...

You will need to get a "Certificate for International or Interstate Movement of Small Animals" from your state's Dept of Food and Agriculture and the Vet can usually provide the form which the vet signs. The other thing you will need to get won't come from the vet, but it is from APHIS "Animal and Plant Health Inspection Services" from the US Dept of Agriculture. Call the USDA branch near the pet's home and tell them where the pet is to be shipped, and you will get a form from them that permits the animal to be shipped. Both the Vet health check and the USDA form (require fees, not too expensive) are only good for a limited time and if there are shipping delays, you have to reapply.

Have your wife either go to the base vet or contact them via the phone, they will have the most up to date info or can at least find it for you.

Have fun, I hear its a great posting.
