Well arthroscopy is a less invasive form of surgery that was previously used on the knee - before they would open your knee right up and leave a huge scar. With an arthroscopy you will have four or five small entry points and they use fibre optics to see inside your knee. The cartilage will be cut out and trimmed. Afterwards it can be painful depending on the amount of 'debris' removed from your knee but you should feel a whole lot better. Safety - well I have had 6 knee operations five of which have been arthroscopies. Any operation has its risks largely because of the anaesthetic. However these days the risks are really minimal - infection afterwards is the other risk.

Arthroscopy's are not cures as such but you should get an improved knee.

Incidently I still ski and play soccer - Michael Owen will have also had an initial arthroscopy prior to his main operation. Don't worry you will be fine.

Arthroscopy is when they examine the joint space using a small camera, if you are talking about the actual procedure to 'scope' the area, you mean orthroscopic.

Both procedures are safe providing that you are going to a qualified physician and are given proper after care. If you are having this after an injury then you will more than likely have to go to some type of rehab when the initial pain and swelling subside. I have had one knee done and feel a thousand percent better. Mine was due to years of lifting weights and ignoring the pain that came from pushing my body too far too fast.

Good luck!

1. Arthroscopy is a very safe procedure.
2. Arthroscopy literally means "viewing the joint."
3. Arthroscopically surgeons would repair the joint and save your knee.
4. None in the world can provide 100% cure for any disease.
5. Doctors would be able to provide you the best care and you and your body has to cope with it and improve.
6. I know numerous patients who have successfully completed arthroscopy and are leading quality life.

Nothing to worry about it. Make sure you go to a good hospital and doctor.

if you have a good doctor it is very safe but remember that 100% with any surgery cant be done they can make you better they can fix the problem and make most of the pain go away. but you hurt something and it can never go back to new. i have had this done 2 times on the same knee. they did there best and i live with what i have. and it is better than what i had.

safe? yes.

100%cure? NO surgery is 100%. It is, however, probably the best choice if physical therapya nd rehabilitation haven't made things better. Of course, unles it is a life threatening emergency you should ALWAYS get a second opinion

I think he already answered all your questions about the prognosis of the procedure....and it's time for you to decide....and if still there's a lot of doubts in you...maybe you can check the website regarding the procedure...Im sure the doctor is much more concern about our health.....t.c.
