It is an unreimbursed employee expense on your schedule A. But it will not help you if you do not itemize, and you have to meet a certain limit in order to claim anything.

yes union dues are deductible as a misc. itemized deduction. Its subject to the 2% of AGI floor however before it becomes of any use. Your tax return prep fees would also be deductible here (even the cost of buying tax return prep software).

Union dues ARE tax deductible,(in my state) whether they effect your return depends upon your income and your deductions page. Going to a certified tax preparer who is smarter than you is always helpful ! I run my business by hiring people smarter than me, for I have nothing to learn from those who aren't. : )

For federal, yes but only if you itemize.

For state, depends on where you live. Many states allow you to deduct them.
