Not that the equasion always works in the other direction, of course. But, yeah, I keep hearing "Oh they're not Christain, they're Catholic", and it makes my brain hurt. It's like people are mixing up the definitions of "Christain" and "Protestent."

I've heard something about praying to the saints, like Protestents have a problem with that sometimes? Going by what Catholics have told me, praying to saints something like asking your boss' friend to talk to your boss for you; they don't worship the saints. Or, at least, the Catholics I know don't.

If it worships Jesus, it's a Christain. Catholics worship Jesus. So yeah.

Maybe my little mind can't comprehend the subtleties here or something, but it all seems fairly straightforward to me...

You have it 100% correct. "If it worships Jesus, it's a Christian". I will remember that one, very nice. I am Catholic by the way.

Keep it simple. Because it is. Christian means, follower of Christ. Jesus Christ that is. That is the only thing that makes one a Christian. Not a specific denomination, OR non-denominational label. Jesus Christ said in John 14:6 Jesus saith unto him, "I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me." (KJV) Without going into any doctrinal differences and opening up a can of worms. I believe there are some catholic Christians. But...again...I also believe that the denominational LABELS for any believer, are NOT necessary to have a relationship with Jesus Christ. Christian will suffice. Very simple. Just truly BELIEVE, and God will honor that :) And JESUS CHRIST IS GOD the Son the second person of the Holy Trinity. Be careful of the New World (WatchTower) Translation down below me. They attempt to twist Gods words and don't want to face the fact that there are (3) persons that share DIETY. The Father, The Son, and The Holy Spirit. All one God. The physical brain cannot, and never will comprehend that mystery. It is a spiritual TRUTH understood only "in the spirit" :)

John 1:1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word (Jesus) was God.

John 1:14 And the Word ( Jesus) was made flesh, and dwelt among us, and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth.

1Timothy 3:16 And without controversy great is the mystery of godliness: God (Jesus) was manifest in the flesh, justified in the Spirit, seen of angels, preached unto the Gentiles, believed on in the world, received up into glory.

It's because of anti-catholic prejudice. It's still very common.
Almost no one insults the Jews or the Jewish faith.
But somehow it seems to some that it's ok to insult Catholics and the Catholic faith.

This is of course prejudice, but the US was almost funded on anti-catholic prejudice.
The pilgrim fathers came from England where catholics were terribly persecuted by the protestants, hanged drawn and quartered like in Brave-heart was the punishment for just being a Catholic priest. There was a huge anti-catholic propaganda to try to justify the reformation, some of this propaganda has survived to our day in prejudice like "Catholics worship idols" "the pope is Anti-Christ" and so on. That this kind of false accusations still survive is just a sign of the ignorance and malice of some Protestants.

One of the worst so called "christan" hate-mongers is Jack Chick, he's just plain evil and probably posessed by the evil one.

People can negotiate all they want but in boils down to the bibles teachings. You cant take one verse from the bible misconstrue it & call it a religion. The bible actually does say to pray thru Christ to the Lord which is the medifore you used, but not thru Mary. And It was a priveledge for her to carry Jesus, it was not meant for her to be worshipped. If so it would say the son sits at my right & Mary to my left, if one is busy I will transfer you to the other. She was married & had other children thus is in death waiting for the resurrection like everyone else. All churches break the commandments by having Mary & /or Jesus figures Because they are graven images & they all teach a falsehood by saying someone is in heaven now when they die because the bible speaks of a resurrection to take place after armagedon when all the dead will be raised for judgement & thats what they are dead, not thinking or waiting it says he will make them whole even from ashes. You just have to pray, listen & use common sence. The Bible says the truth is in your heart if you listen you will hear it & I say if you can find that with in your self you wont believe the peace you'll have, as far as worrying about heaven-hell-life-death. unfortunately it doesnt pay the electric bill . Take Care

You are right. Anybody should be hurt by that kind of approach. Most important is the Ten Command . We can speak to our teachers for help. Saints are who gives us a clear Idea about God because they Spent more time with God and know better than us . Whom you give time he becomes your Best Friend and Guide.Saints give quality time to God . If we give quality time for maths we know math well . If we give quality time to God, He reveals more to us . They are the choosen one who does become saints.Because without Gods help no can do well in any good subject. Without Gods help we can become thief but not a saint. Whom u ask for the help if he is aware of God he can give you proper idea Like Jesus could . But claiming to be a saint does not mean a saint .Mother is closer to Jesus . So he is happy when mother is praised. No matter what people say. Canot seperate mother and Jesus.I do not pray to mother but Love her. I pray to the Father who is the creature of this beautiful world.Who created this world in 6 days and took rest in the 7th day. I think God can give us everything if we are submissive to him and take the path shown by Jesus our Lord.

If you are an atheist and don't believe in God then why should this perplex you? In other words why is this any of your business? You don't believe in God any way. You as an atheist don't believe that you will burn in hell for eternity, so why do you care? Are you just looking for something to base an argument on and have some proof of your denial? Do you think you are going to win?
If you are an atheist, you need to check your guide book.
If you are not, then pick up a bible and learn the TRUTH.
Catholics follow a distinctive set of rules that were set many years ago that involve the belief in God and Jesus as our savior, Christians do the same but non-denominational. IT doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure that out. But considering that you are an atheist..... let your mind wonder aimlessly.

Jesus said it is his FATHER IN HEAVEN that should be worshipped.
Jesus is NOT God.
John 1;18 No man has seen God at any time; the only-begotten god who is in the bosom [position] with the Father is the one that has explained him.
Jesus, now back in heaven, is a god [ small g] a spiritual person, in his own right.
John 6;38 because I have come down from heaven to do, not my will, but the will of him that sent me.
John 6;44 No man can come to me unless the Father, who sent me, draws him; and I will resurrect him in the last day.
THE FATHER WHO SENT ME..a complete separation.
John 5;19 Therefore, in answer, Jesus went on to say to them: “Most truly I say to YOU, The Son cannot do a single thing of his own initiative, but only what he beholds the Father doing. For whatever things that One does, these things the Son also does in like manner
IF JESUS WAS GOD, HE WOULD NOT HAVE SAID THIS.
John 5; 22 For the Father judges no one at all, but he has committed all the judging to the Son,
A CLEAR SEPARATION OF THE TWO.
So on this basis, when the Catholic church teaches that Jesus IS God, or even an EQUAL part of God, it is not accurate.

Of course - they're all teaching out of the exact same (originally) Book that can be traced back to exact translations from the ancient texts.
The church differences are man-made and involve rituals, proceedures, etc. There's bunches of belief differences amongst all the Protestant denominations too.
It's kinda funny (and sad) that they disagree primarily about things only God knows the answers to anyway -- and in the end we're all going back to the same place - the Source we came from - not to be judged by what religion we ascribed to, but what is in our heart and soul.

it type of feels a lot of people were regrettably misinformed. a million. Catholicism is a sect of Christianity. hence, Catholics are Christians. there are a decision of diverse denominations of Christianity: Catholic, Methodist, Baptist, Protestant, and so on. they are all Christians, and that all of them believe contained in the mandatory theory that Jesus became despatched down from heaven as God's purely son, died on the bypass to keep us from our sins, and then rose again. 2. Catholics do no longer WORSHIP Mary or the Saints. Cathlolics purely worship the daddy, Son and Holy Spirit, a useless ringer for all different Christians. they in basic terms ask Mary and the Saints to wish for them. that's no longer an similar as worshipping. Take the Hail Mary: "Hail Mary, finished of grace, the Lord is With thee. Blessed artwork thou between women folk and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus. Holy Mary, mom of God, **pray for us sinners now and on the hour of our lack of existence.**" the mandatory idea at the back of it is that Jesus in no way reported "no" to his mom. hence, if Mary prays for you, Jesus will answer your prayer. 3. you're maximum acceptable proper. All followers of Christ are Christians. they are commonly any denomination of Christianity. the mandatory beliefs are an similar, in basic terms the numerous rituals and how that they worship are diverse.

Catholics worship the "Queen of Heaven" the Virgin Mary. You are in the Abomilation of Revaltion and Jesus has said "Come out her my people." If you continue to worship Mary in place of Jesus then you will go to hell for rejecting the One True God. For more information go to www.chick.com and you will see the truth.
God bless and take care.
