The main difference between engineering science and engineering technology is based on the curriculum in the two streams. As you can see based on the requirements of ABET an Engineering science degree is more in-depth knowledge and having more mathematics, whereas Engineering Technology is more practical oriented with more hands-on experience. The students of Engineering technology can exit (if they want) after two years and get an associate degree to be eligible for a position of Technician. The students of engineering science will have to complete 4 years degree course and they will be eligible for a position of Engineer and licence for PE. The salary of Engineering science graduate is higher than engineering technology graduates in most of the cases.

Graduates of engineering programs apply scientific concepts to develop solutions to real world problems. Their job is more theoretical, involving the design of new products such as a robot that will be used in an auto manufacturing plant. Engineers require more theoretical, scientific and mathematical knowledge.

At the same time, some colleges and universities offer 2- and 4- year engineering technology programs that prepare students for practical design and production work. Graduates of 4-year engineering technology programs may get jobs similar to those obtained by graduates with a bachelor's degree in engineering. Technicians install and maintain products, providing a wide range of services: implementation of the design, testing, calibration and supervision of its operation.

Technology is creating concepts using science, engineering is to apply technology in practical. Both are two sides of a coin. Never be single.

The branch of engineering came out from science, when mechanical engines were designed and developed. However the same word was used for all branches of the basic mechanical engineering, like civil, automobile, electrical etc. Till such time the basics of these disciplines came from the science.

Then when each branch themselves grown, they were to be treated as techniques to be followed in implementing scientific concepts, rather then just engineering (modifying to suite the need of the field). Hence the word technology has become appropriate.

In my view the word engineering has to be completely replaced with technology.

Engineering is the application of scientific and technical knowledge to solve human problems. Engineers use imagination, judgment and reasoning to apply science, technology, mathematics, and practical experience. The result is the design, production, and operation of useful objects or processes

Technology refers to all tools and procedures and their interconnections

In Canada, engineering (without the technology) is a 4 year bachelor's degree at a university, leading to a professional license, with a starting salary of $50 000 CDN. It is 90% theory, 10% lab, and of that 90% theory, 90% of that is calculus, disguised with names like "vector analysis", "electromagnetics" etc. If you add the word "technology" to the program title, it implies a 3 year diploma at a community college. I think the US equivalent would be an "associate's degree". 50% theory, 50% lab. Starting salary: $30 000 CDN. Opportunities to become a "certified technologist" exist, but it isn't a licensed profession.

Engineering is to technology, as accounting is to numbers.

Engineering is a lot of theory. Technology or technologists do more hands on applications.
