When a disease shows up in a cluster in a community it is considered a cluster disease. These would be infectious diseases. Childhood cluster diseases would be those particularly affecting children. Examples are pertussis (whooping cough), polio, diphtheria, measles, and tetanus.

Cluster diseases are those that occur in certain populations or groups of people at the same time. So, any childhood diseases that all of a sudden popped up in a large group of people and affected a good number of them would qualify.

For example, if suddenly chickenpox popped up in NYC and a lot of people got it and were sick, that would become labeled a childhood cluster disease.

Here's some examples of cancer clusters:

The vaccine that some believe causes autism is given when children are 12 months- the MMR vaccine. My son has his Dr. appt next week and I am worried. There is no proof that the MMR vaccine causes autism, but there are many that say they believe it can. You can get these shots spaced out so that they are not receiving so many at once. That is what I plan on doing. When my son goes he will either get the Measles vaccine, Mumps, or Rubella vaccine. And then get the other two seperately later on. Some children have bad reactions to certain vaccines and that can be a cause of concern, although it is very unlikely. I believe the risks outweigh the benefits. It has not been proven that autism is caused from the MMR vaccine, but I still chose to have them seperated so it is not such a big dose. Do what you think is best for your daughter.

Disease Clusters can either be communicable or non communicable meaning that diseases can be transferred from person to person. When people talk about disease clusters they are usually talking about noncommunicable diseases such as cancer.

Here is a site that lists various ones around the U.S. Hope it helps.
