We definitely need to protect the Earth's aquatic environments. In a strictly scientific sense, the aquatic environment (which includes the oceans, lakes, rivers and streams) are a major food source for humanity.
Between over-fishing and pollution, Earth's aquatic environments are in grave danger, therefore, so are we. I hope this helps to answer your question.

Even Wetlands hold a great importance -- In the not so distant past swamp land was considered useless because humans could not utilize it for anything but now we know differently. They clean runoff water before it enters the rivers, lakes and oceans. They are important flood buffers (they hold a lot of water and act kind of like a sponge when it rains a lot). Not to mention the animals that use these areas for feeding, reproduction and shelter. Every aquatic environment is important and are interconnected with other life and other environments.

Sir or Madam:
We need to protect them because 7/8 of the world population use the world's creeks, streams, and rivers to carry off waste, factory tailings, dead things, and tainted agricultural runoff laced with pesticides and other chemicals. Aquatic life sustains about half of the world population. Without it we would be short fifty percent of our food supply, and have many, many people out of work in the fishing, seafood wholesale and packing/merchandising industry.

Aquatic environments guard our water quality.
It takes sun energy (mostly) to keep the water clean (or at least suitable for them). Without them, we'll need a lot of energy (probably nuclear) to keep the water drinkable or we'll end up with water crisis.

we need to protect aquatic environments because they will get extinct and the future generation will not know or see the wonderful creatures of the sea.

all life on this planet depends on 2 things:h20(water) and light(energy) without these, there is no life. we, as a species, need to preserve water sources because contamination can make them highly unusable.
