Don't underestimate the "constipation" that is caused by narcotic! When most people think of constipation, they imagine some hard dry stool that is difficult and painful to move. Narcotic induces slowing and weakening of the bowel. Stool can build up inside until the stretch within the walls can lead to such severe pain that doctors are convinced these patients need emergency surgery! I've seen people lose large segments of the colon because of this. Narcotic bowel is no joke.

Although there are ways to evaluate the bowel other than the ones you listed, they will just show us what we already know that we will see. They will show the bowel has slowed or even stopped its normal movement. Unless you are off narcotic for a significant period of time, this will be clearly attributed to the drug effect.

Remember! there are as many nerve cells in the walls of the intestines as there are in the ENTIRE SPINAL CORD!! Narcotic works by interfering with nerve signals.
