Horn Island is offshore the Australian State Queensland. Horn Island is quite large and flat, with two horns at the top of the island. It is also called Narupai Island and it was given its English name by Matthew Flinders in 1802. It is the site of Torres Strait Islands Thursday Island's airport, which makes it a gateway for travellers to the mainland and outer islands. Torres Shire is the local government authority. The island has a population of approximately 650 and is 53 km² in area.
