Firstly have to agree with a lot of people on here, and ask why would you want to fit a DVD onto a CD? Most people use shrink programs to fit an over-sized DVD file onto a standard DVD. I would imagine the quality loss caused by fitting a DVD sized file onto a CD would make the project pointless.
As far as I'm aware the best two free programs for converting and shrinking DVDs,DVD Decrypter and DVD Shrink are unfortunately not available for the MAC.
The programs your already trying are among the better Mac converters unless you want to pay serious money, however I think you will struggle to find a program that converts full DVDs down to fit on Cd's and maintains any sort of quality. You may however be able to use a VCD converter that can work with files stored on your hard-drive, and convert these to fit on a CD or multiple Cd's.
There's some good alternative programs already named, and I would recommend trying the links below to get more information on what's available, however my advice is if your going to shrink DVDs put them onto DVD not CD, then you should be able to use the programs you already have with little trouble.
Hope this helps and good luck

I've also had problems with 42 after I upgraded to the latest OS, I was never able to get DVD2One to work on my system.

I've been using Toast Titanium, it is available from Roxio. But you will need to rip the DVD first, there is a free program called MactheRipper that does this. I've also used FastDVDCopy, it is available as trial version. Very quick and you don't need to rip the DVD first, if I remember corrrectly.

For format conversion (iPod, PSP) I use Handbrake and iSquint both are freeware. Though I feel that 42 delivered better results.

You can find out about DVD copying at this website -
metakine.com

They sell DVD copying software, but they also provide info on different copy methods using various software programs.

I've used Fast DVD copy and popcorn for DVD backups(not all free).
If you actually want a DVD to fit on a CD (rather than a DVD+/-R) then handbrake (free) is the ideal solution but you'll be turning this into a mpeg4/DiVx format disc which not all standalone DVD players can play back (some do) though most Macs and Windows boxes can.
Mactheripper is handy to have for initial ripping.

A DVD is 4.7 GB. If you encode a DVD to DivX, you will get 1.3-1.4GB, which will fit onto 2 CDs, but you won't get it on to one CD without a lot of quality loss. You can get a trial for a DivX converter (I think it's 30 days) at www.divx.com.

attempt Corel Paintshop professional. It has a batch conversion function that ought to covert a set of information to a distinct/smaller format with out having to reformat each and each and every percentone-by technique of-one. you could get carry of a tribulation version from their internet website. Why would a percentbe kept in mpeg format contained in the first position? it truly is a format in many cases used for video information.

Why would you want to do that? CD's are on their way out. DVD's are much better. Usually, people put the content of CD's onto DVD's.
