Changing the government from centralized (communist) control to a democracy would seem to be a good start. However, I don't think it would be practical because the last thing Vietnam needs right now is a government revolution in the middle of their greatest economic boom in history. Communism will die in Vietnam and democracy will succeed it there. The communists leaders in Vietnam know that their time is limited, and are already preparing for the inevitable.

The most practical thing is for Vietnam's new leadership to continue cleaning out government corruption. Billions of dollars have been siphoned off by former top government officials that was supposed to pay for roads, hospitals, schools and infrastructure improvements. It is common to pay off a government official if you're a foreigner conducting business in Vietnam. That needs to stop before Vietnam can truly be a player in the world's economic community.

According to wikipedia;

Vietnam (Vietnamese: Việt Nam), officially the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, is a communist country in Southeast Asia.

It is not yet a democracy. There are a lot of businesses looking at building in Vietnam, but in my opinion it would be a terrible mistake because the commie government could at some time drive out the investors and just take control of everything.

The people think of Ho Chi Minh about the same as we think of George Washington. Nevermind that he forced communism on millions of people who fled the north because they didn't want it. Ignore the fact that through terrorism he got about a million of his beloved "countrymen" killed.

Until it casts off communism, it should continue to exist in poverty, perhaps that way the people will grow tired of it and demand freedom.

China likes having a little brother country to embrace its ideology. That's why china coddles North Korea.

Don't trust a communist government any farther than you can throw a Sherman tank.

For one thing they could repent of the war crimes they committed
against the French and the American, not to mention their
neighbors and even their own people. Tran Duc Luong is considered to be one of the world's most terrible tyrants and
dictators not to mention a communist butcher. Speaking as
a Viet Nam Era veteran, the US was wrong to pull out of Viet
Nam and turn it over to the communists. The US won every
major battle it ever fought there but had no clear cut goals in
the politics of the Administrations in Washington. Most Generals
state that we could have taken the entire region in less than
3 to 6 months if we had prosecuted the war properly. Instead
we listened to the leftists in this country and turned it over
to the communists. May God have mercy on us, and may
God have mercy on Viet Nam.

Continue to praise America for its efforts in the '60's and apologize for putting up such a fight. If you can believe it, now that they're a free country and understand what we were trying to do for them, they actually LIKE our earlier occupation there.
