christians are hypocrites...they really need to practice what they preach

I do understand your question. I unfortunately do not have an answer. I am a Christian, but I seldom go to church. The reason almost the same as your question. Not all Christians are hypocrites, but enough are and they make the rest look bad. My dad is a good Christian, he lives what he believes. He does make mistakes, he is human ( and now 86) so I don't expect perfection. However, the TV evangelists give Christianity a bad name, remember Tammy and Jim Baker. They sure didn't practice what they preached! I worked in a jail for a while, a small county one. Some of the jail's residents included highly respected and pious citizens of the community. They were charged with spousal abuse, DUI's, illegal drug use, and other crimes. Here again they sure didn't practice what they preached. On Sunday mornings, they would be singing their little hearts out and on Sunday night they would beating the little wife. So I have some negativity about the hypocrisy of Christianity.

So I try my best to live the kind of life I think God wants me to live. I try and treat everyone fairly, equally and honestly. I try to let people see that God is with me by my actions and not my words. That is all I can do and I don't always live up to those expectations, but I hope God understands. I mean he did make me the way I am.

One of the basic steps of becoming a Christian is admitting you're a hypocrite. I know I am.

I've been thinking a lot lately about how much the Christianity I've known in my lifetime is a "talk-based" Christianity. It's more about knowing guidelines, stories, rules, and retorts to challenging questions. It's all about trying so hard to communicate this message of the Gospel and the Law using words. I think that's where the problems have arisen.

The Gospel is meant to be communicated; not only with words, but largely with actions, attitudes, and Love. More simply put, Christians are supposed to both TELL the Message and BE the Message. Most of us have the TELL part down well; too well. We could do with some silence and a lesson in how to Love. We've place too much importance on talk and not enough on attitude, Love, sacrifice, and service.

That said, I think it's also fair to admit that a few bad apples spoil the whole bunch. By far, there are more faithful, gentle, and loving Christians than hypocritical and racist ones. It's just that the ones who have it right know how to shut up and do what they need to do. Too often we label the whole lot "hypocrites" based on the behavior of the loudest and most offensive or inconsistent.

You say you need an answer but the question is so insulting, what answer would you accept?

Do you really think every Christian is a hypocrite? That is a very broad generalization. Do you think all white people are rich, all black people play basketball? All native Americans drink? Those generalizations are the same as painting all Christians with the same brush.

Where does the bigotry stop?

I try very hard not to be a hypocrite, but because I am a human being, I'm sure I fall short. As for gossip and hating neighbors, tht simply isn't true. I am very conscious of trying to be kind to everyone. Am I perfect, no certainly not, no one is. But everyday I wake up and try.

I don't know where you live or the kind of people who surround you, but it doesn't sound good.

It doesn't sound as if you really know the meaning of being a Christian. You have expectations that if a person is a Christian, that person should be held to a higher standard of behavior than anyone else and cannot make a mistake. Why do you sit in judgment on Christians? Goodness, the generalizations you make. The racist comments you make. I think you just somehow want to vent your frustrations.

Christians are not perfect. We make mistakes every day. What we do know is that we love God and we desire with all our being to follow Him and His Word in all that we do. God doesn't expect us to be perfect, nor does He require perfection. He only requires an honest, humble heart that is ready to do His will and purpose. Along the way, we Christians will make mistakes. We will gossip, say hurtful things, make wrong decisions. And we will have to answer to God for those things on Judgment Day. But we always come back to our place of peace, joy and most of all, total acceptance -- our Father God.

I hope you find your answers and that your heart will be softened toward those of us who walk in imperfection daily.

Those are actually really good questions. I am a Christian, but I personally don't believe that anyone is entitled to any more respect that they give to others, including Christians.

Try to remember that hypocrisy and double standards are a pretty common human fault. You can see it in politics, parenting, work ethic, etc. It's not just a religious or Christian thing.

Religion seems to bring out the best in people and the worst in people. For myself, bigoted, hateful, and judgmental Christians really frustrate me. If we could just learn to love people the way we believe Christ loved us, Christianity would be a lot more appealing to a lot more people.

My only suggestion to you would be to keep in mind that your relationship with God is a personal matter between you and God. Don't let anyone or anything come between you and the direction you honestly feel your heart in leading you.

And don't take any crap from anybody, whatever their religion is.

That is one reason I had left the church at one time, but now I am back at the church. Their is alot of hypocrit Christians, I'm not the best but I'm trying the best I can, more so at sometimes then others. Also, not all people who say their Chrisitan may even understand what they means. Their is so many reasons we could say, but my advice for anyone who is Christian and dealing with that is to not look at other people, but to do the best at being a loving person themself and not to be hypocritical.

If some claims to be a Christian and really is a hypocrite, then they were never a Christian to begin with. A Christian is a person that looks and acts like Christ. One can be a member of a church, and go to church functions and activities but are not Christians. They are just very religious!

No one is perfect thats true but we can strive for perfection and righteousness; for the bible says strive to be perfect as you Lord God is perfect.

In the Bible it says that Christians will become this way, but not all Christians. In the end, God knows who the true Christians are. The ones who are self righteous, racist, etc. have not read the words in their Bible clearly and in God's eyes are not true Christian. We are told to Love God with all our heart, soul, and mind, and if a true Christian is doing this as best they can, then they are not self righteous and they truelly love their neighbor as themselves. I am a Non-Denomonational Christian and though I am not perfect, I work at not being these things everyday.

I am sorry to hear tat ur facing this kind of problems with believers who have forgotten their first love. I sincerely apologize for them, though I do not know u nor them. Sometimes, ppl being in the human nature operate in the flesh and do not realize what they are doing is wrong till God sends them strong warning signals - child, ur violating the laws. It depends on person to person and their relationship with Jesus Christ. Christ died for all nations and ppl and as His life is chronicled or written in the Gospels - Mathew, Mark, Luke and John - there is no double standards, just plain love - all christians are asked to be followers of Christ and his attitude. The closer you are to Jesus, a deeper relationship, the more they reflect Jesus Christ. My prayer for u beloved is that you would raise your eyes and have a good look at Jesus and you would be overwhelmed and my prayer is that you would allow Jesus in, so that you can prove to the world what Jesus is like.

Solomon said there is nothing new under the sun. Jesus called the religious bunch of his day....hypocrites,generation of vipers...also except your righteousness exceed the scribes and pharisees you shall in no wise enter into the kingdom of heaven. The compassion that Christ had on this earth he gave to the true believer and when anyone does not love like God loves they are not of God.Period.Charity is the ablity to show love, and God is love.
