Look up your receiver's troubleshooting guide and double-check everything. Otherwise, contact your local consumer electronics merchant (preferably the one you purchased your receiver from) and get some technical help from them.

There could be several reasons why you are not getting sound.
Is there a mute button? Make sure it is not turned on.
Is there a tape monitor button? Make sure it is not engaged.
Make sure your speakers are engaged, if they are hooked on to speaker A ,that speaker A is engaged and on.
Also on some receivers if there is a speaker hook up for two speakers (A or B) and speaker A and B are engaged but there is no speakers for B it will mute the entire speaker system so no sound is coming from A, make sure B is turned off.
ON the back of your receiver is there any fuses? Make sure there are no blown or missing fuses.
Try connecting your speakers to B , if there is one , and see if you can get sound then,
If none of these suggestions work, then take your receiver into a repair shop.

The jvc rx884 has "assignable inputs".

That is you can mix and match input types to various buttons.

For example video 1 may get its picture from s video input 1 and it's audio from optical 2

OR

Second example Video 1 may get its picture from component 2 and its audio from digital 1.

ETC

I know reading the directions sucks but if you locate the section on assigning inputs and check your receiver's set up that may very well fix your problem.

Check to make sure that you have not accidentally pressed the "tape monitor" button. If so, press it again to turn off that function.
