The OBC reservation in jobs in Central Government was introduced after the implementation of the Mandal Commission. In the Mandal Commisssion's report, certain castes for each State were enumerated as belonging to OBC. While implementing the reservation, the Union Government decided that the castes whose find a place in the Commission report and are enumerated as belonging to OBC by the respective State Government would be treated as OBC for the purpose of reservation in jobs. The same list will be adopted for reservation in educational institutions, as and when it is brought into effect.
