It is a feeling. Your heart and mind are with something or someone, yes, you can fall in love with the storybook , comic characters or even the nature's beauty also. When you see something you are happy and wish to have that feeling. That is love.

Finding joy in some elses existence/being. "I'm glad that you exist" or "I'm joyful to be with you".
Contrast that with finding joy in some use or function that a person serves. Seperate from anything someone might do or not do, you appritiate their being.
