Trust me you do not want to dye your hair. I really really wanted to. Then I did...it not only did irreprable damage to my hair but also to my hair follicles. I am now stuck with a constant afro-puff for hair that looks fried unless I style it nice with lots of musse, hair spray, or gel. My advice is to just not do it. Love yourself for who you are ;)
However if you INSIST on dying it, explain to your mother that you would like to express your individuality. Also point out to her that it's not permanant. Your hair will grow back. It'll just take time. And you can always bleach it out and dye it another color if it doesn't look right.

just do it, whats the worst that will happen she will ground you. It is bad for your hair and it will damage it though. It can make your hair fall out if you do it to much or incorrectly so dont think there are no side effects. Plus if you dont like the color you will have to wait months or years for your natural color to grow back out.

just do it.. use one of those wash in treatments that washes out in 12 or 24 washes, depends on which one you get.. and if she totally freaks.. at least it won't last too long
