I AGREE!
True story: I used to be very buff in my 20s - I worked out 7 times a week sometimes (took 2 days off) so sometimes I worked out twice a day. I did everything right. I was food conscientious, respectful of my body, and was a very good boy.
I suddenly got very sick, so very sick that at age 27 I had to see several doctors. I was dehydrated, anemic, losing weight, and bleeding out of my ***. I got so sick that I went to get an HIV test and told my parents the situation and to expect the worst.
I got my best friend to go with me on a whim to get tested too - what could it hurt??? Well, I ended up being negative and he ended up being positive.
I did everything right, and all I wanted to do was be fit and healthy and here I was sick. All he wanted to do was give and receive love (and no, he wasn't promiscious) and he ended up positive.
Later, I found out I had ulcerative colitis. And since 1997 I have almost died twice while he has remained healthy.
SO WHY MAINTAIN A HEALTHY DIET? - It's all up to you guy. You never know what will happen and why. It's all about risks and what is enough for you.
The sad thing, was that when 9-11 hit, all I could wonder was, "Wow, think of all those people trying to quit smoking, or go on diets, and does it matter now???"
The answer to your question is only YOU know.

The best way that I know to answer this question is because "we are what we eat." We need good and high quality nutrition to make sure that our body has the fuel it needs to keep working, properly. One thing that really concerns me is that a lot of us have forgotten that a healthy diet is very important to our overall well being. Mothers and women don't cook at home as much as they used to in the past (because of committments outside of the home such as work and all). And, to me, this has had a profound impact on the health of families, to include the children. Too much of our foods today are processed and is what is called "fast foods." Neither one of these are good for the body in the long term, compared to a healthy diet. We can all see that obesity is certainly on the rise in the USA. To me, we all need to find out what is a healthy diet for us (and we all have different dietary needs) and learn to follow it as close as possible.

An important healthy diet does prevent heart disease and other sicknesses. Sorry to hear about the man who got sick, but our body can prevent allot of things, unfortunately some virus's and bacteria can still invade our bodies. It is an interesting question and topic. During my certification for my license as a Nutritionist we studied diets, junk food, protein powder, vitamins, etc., and I have to tell you, there are exceptions in every case. I know people with lung cancer who never smoked, and I know guys as big as "Arnold Schwarzenegger" who caught hepatitis and changed their lives forever.....I do not have any magic formula as a fitness trainer or nutritionist. I know one thing, people who do "Impact" events, or A Type personalities, tend to be able to fight off more illnesses than others......until they slow down, etc.
Healthy Diet: Good Carbs, protein, and very little fat. A good diet is 25% protein, 25% fat, and 50% carbs, and some type of a fitness program.

A healthy, balanced diet provides nutrients to your body. Nutrients give you energy and keep your heart beating, your brain active, and your muscles working. Nutrients help build and strengthen bones, muscles, and tendons and also regulate body processes, such as blood pressure.

You don't have to eat a healthy diet. Only if you want to feel good and live longer.
Is this really a question?

Too much of something is bad enough. So for food, we need to watch and balance the quality and quantity of our intake or else suffer the consequences.

For your heart and also for your mood and energy. Without the proper balance, your moods are off, your cholestrol and cardiovascular disease increases and you have low energy.
