Hey, JoJo, I feel for your loss. I too have recently "put-down" my beloved dog. It hurts! The only thing is my mind knows I've done the right thing, but my heart is broken. It will take time to get used to the loss I don't think we ever "get over" this. I am much older than you (over 40 yrs. older) and it feels the same no matter how old a person is. I'm not into tats so I don't think that's what I would do. What I am doing is trying to still take a walk everyday just as we used to do in his honor and for my health -I know he would want me to continue to live and be well. The pain lessens with time. It is good to talk about it with people who understand. I know it is corny to say but think of all the love you shared(that doesn't die) and all the good times too. You had him a long time. He must have been a great friend. Keep your dog alive in your memory and out loud to those who will be comfortable reminiscing about him. Sorry for your loss. I'll say a prayer for you. You never forget, it just gets a little less painful with time.

I have a dog & he's 11. Lately, he's become much less playful and more quiet. He's still pretty affectionate, but I can see he's growing old. Everytime I look at him it breaks my heart. I've had him for 11 years & love him like a member of the family. And although I love dogs in general, I dont think I can get another dog after he goes away... But I guess that's life...

Their metabolisms go MUCH faster than humans... think of it like driving a car a fast as you can tearing up the surface street in a city (like a dog) and a semi truck that travels the speed limit and goes on the highway (like a human)
Whats gunna last longer??
Car - usually around 100k miles or so
Semi - at least 1.5 mil miles
Best of luck with ur dog

That's the truth about cats and dogs. they'll most likely pass on before you. It's all to do with the amount of heart beats. all animals have round abouts the same amount of heart beats (with a few exceptions) until it wears out. larger animal-slower heart rate-longer life before heart runs out. its always hard losing a family member. At first you'll cry, eventually you'll laugh, remembering all the things he used to do and how much of a good, GREAT friend he was for the better part of your life. remember the good times and you'll always be able to smile!!!

It does suck, I just had my 18 year old cat die. But I bet your dog lived a long, healthy life and you enjoyed him while he was around! Now you can go and rescue another wonderful animal from the pound, and give it a happy life!

It is largely about the amount of heart beats over your dogs life. Because your dogs heart beat many times faster than your human heart, the life span of your dog is respectively shorter. I'm Sorry for your loss, your dog sounds like he/she was a loyal & loving friend.

aww i'm sorry, i've been there, i cried for a week. Dogs are a special part of a family, and you love them just like family. But you gotta remember he was 14 and lived a good long life.

death is part of life, unfortunately. the best way to move on is to accept that fact.
lifespans of different animals vary widely, its just the way they evolved. from the 2 week lifespan of a housefly to the150+ year lifespan of giant tortises, every animal is different. dogs have about 1/7th the lifespan of a human
like i said, accepting death as a part of everyones life will make it easier to accept your dog's passing and that of any otehr pet/family member youll ever have. depending on your beliefs, your dog is in a better place now
if you want something to live for almost as long as you, get a parrot. they last for about 40 years
