I teach, and I care if the student cares or shows the potential to care. But if the student doesn't even show the slightest interest, I just have to accept it and hope that s/he will come around some day. In the meantime, I'll put more of my energy into the ones who have the spark.

There are three kinds of teachers: The first is a motivated person that really cares. The second kind is a person that couldn't find another job and the third is someone who is getting a paycheck for little work. You can find out which you have very easily. Go up to an old teacher and speak to them, if they really cared about you, they'll remember you and call you by name, the other two won't.

I'd say yes they would have to care whether you learn when they become a teacher. Now whether thery continue to care after being a teacher is something different. Its so important for teachers to care because 2 bad yrs of elementary school or 2 bad yrs of high school can ruin a childs life. So we need the teachers to care and we need a system for parents to be able to work and be involved in their childrens life while haveing one of their own.

if the teacher dosen't that attitude tells a lot about he/she . Teachers also recieve a report card so I'm almost sure 99.9 percent of all teachers do care, the same students may be thier nurse , doctor ,lawyer one day and yes we must be very careful how we teach . most of all your teaching will stare you back in the face.

Like 99% of the teachers from my hometown in Maine... were obviously THERE for the kids! They don't make enough money to just stay there for the money. They are definately compassionate about kids learning and furthering their education... some teachers even help pitch in money to help kids get supplies for school cuz people from my town really don't have money... it's a very very generous thing for them to do... I beleive they do it for the LOVE of education in children! :)

Depends on the teacher. I'm one and sometimes i can't sleep at night trying to think of a new and fun way to get my students to understand something.

Yes.
We wouldn't do this job otherwise. What else has it going for it other than the satisfaction of helping students choose to learn? Not a high salary, red carpet and easy work!
