""I was anticipating a huge jump in registration. I didn't see it," said Jess Cervantes, a veteran California political operative whose company analyzes Hispanic voting trends. "When you have an emotional response, it takes time to evolve."

It's impossible to count exactly how many new registrants were inspired by the new movement because counties typically don't ask for race or ethnicity.

New registrations were up this year compared with last year, but they were well below the numbers in 2004, and the increase is not surprise at a time Democrats and Republicans are struggling for control of Congress. Even without that factor, the numbers don't indicate the awakening advocates had envisioned."

I had understood that new registrations were up in Arizona, but not clearly on one side of the issue or another.

What do you think?

Yes, I saw this in the news, Dar. I see a lot of people here have answered with "illegals can't vote, anyways." However, in many states apparently illegals DO vote where they can use their fake IDs and in some states where they don't even have to show their IDs in order to vote. So, yes, in many cases, illegals DO vote!! And, in states where there are extremely large numbers of illegals, their votes could, in fact, have an impact on the outcome of an election. People kicked up a big fuss when there was talk of people having to prove their legal citizen status in order to vote and I sure did not understand their fuss over this! Why is it so difficult for people to have their ID to prove their citizenship? Everyone SHOULD have their ID and it should not be such a hardship on them to have to show it for important things like voting and getting drivers' licenses, etc.

I live in a major city/metropolitan area.... with a big cesspool, illegal aliens have created the cesspool part...

I did not see one report of illegal aliens demonstrating... another backfire it would appear.... and since they have NO RIGHT to demonstrate, the media finally did the right thing and did not give the illegal aliens(criminals) a forum to display their disgusting and illegal complaints.

Illegal aliens do not have the right to vote in the USA... it would just be another criminal action added to the ongoing criminal enterprise in which they are engaged

I think that if they were people who had any civic responsibility, the kind of people who were concerned enough to vote, they would be in Mexico trying to make it a worthwhile place instead of running away from their problems and stealing from others.

a) they don't really care about voting in this country or care about the country itself, they just want to make money

b) they are ALL illegal aliens who can't vote anyway, which proves that the organizers are wrong in saying American citizens are marching in solidarity with these people.

MASSIVE DEPORTATIONS IS THE ONLY WAY TO DETER ILLEGAL ALIENS.
