I'd believe them because someone who always speaks the truth would not be able to say such a thing (it's a lie). So it only stands to reason that whoever says such a thing MUST be a liar. But a compulsive liar does not lie ALL of the time. Hence, the speaker is a compulsive liar but is presently speaking the truth.

No, a compulsive liar is not automatically a cheater too. Unless of course they've cheated and lied about it...then add cheater to the list. I've learned that compulsive liars lie because they honestly believe their lives are nothing exciting to talk about...which usually means they have really low self esteems. I know it causes anger, frustration and pain, but making that person realize the actions of their lies, only encourages them to lie more so that they spare the feelings of those around them. I know it sounds odd, but it's true. Think about it, would you rather tell your loved one that they look like crap...or look for something nice to say? Even if you have to make it up. Most liars start off with those little lies to spare feelings, then it just becomes habit. If you want to break the habit, focus on the honesty...even if it's the most mundane of a detail. The more interest you show in what truth that person actually tells, the more likely that person will be to share the truth. And here is another point to ponder. Picture yourself as a child who just got into trouble. we've all been there and we've all lied to spare the consequence of a stupid action. If this person knows that you are going to be mad about something he/she has done...you are going to get a lie. If you react differently, you might start getting some truth. I wish you a ton of patience honey, you are going to need it.

Of course, I already know that they are a compulsive liar... but I would definitely question their motive.

i would believe it when somebody say that they are lying but doubt it when they say they are telling the truth.
