I was wondering does my engine fan always have to be on? I just replaced the motor for the fan and noticed during high temps it would automatically turn on. Now with the temperature cooling down its not on all the time.

That's what it's supposed to do. It is an electric fan and should only run when the engine gets hot. The temperature sender measures engine temp and tells the fan when to turn on.

no the fan doesn't always have to be on. The fan is to be used when the engine heats up to a certain point. Turns on automatically. When that temperature drops the fan automatically turns off ( this is normal operation) that's how it should work.

it runs during high temps and cools off to bring it down within specifications and doesnt as frequently when its not as hot outside...plus its on most of the time the air conditioning or front defroster is on.
