That's what it's supposed to do. It is an electric fan and should only run when the engine gets hot. The temperature sender measures engine temp and tells the fan when to turn on.

no the fan doesn't always have to be on. The fan is to be used when the engine heats up to a certain point. Turns on automatically. When that temperature drops the fan automatically turns off ( this is normal operation) that's how it should work.

this is normal,,its doing exactly what it supposed to be doing,,i own a repair shop,,and have been asked this question a lot,,and it isn't supposed to be on all the time just when its real hot ,,everything is OK with it,,its working fine,,it comes on,,cools the engine off,and kicks back off ,,this is working well ,,good luck with it,,i hope this help,s.

it runs during high temps and cools off to bring it down within specifications and doesnt as frequently when its not as hot outside...plus its on most of the time the air conditioning or front defroster is on.
