Be glad that you are not in Thailand. Here you cannot see a boob, a cigarette, a gun or a knife on TV.

Censorship is the direct suppression of an individual's right to free speech, a right guaranteed and protected by our Constitution. Those that create entertainment and broadcast it should be able to do so without the burden of censorship as long as exercising that right does not infringe upon the rights of others.

I believe there should be some restrictions, but certainly not as many as there are today. I don't believe pornography should be permitted on broadcast television, for example. Breasts, buttocks, even genitals are not pornographic by the themselves, it's what you do with them that creates pornography. Otherwise, I believe the implementation of a comprehensive rating system should be all that is required of broadcasters. As long as broadcasters disclose what they are showing in advance the audience will be informed enough to choose whether or not they wish to view that type of program.

I've known many parents that feel it is the job of broadcasters to monitor what children see; I disagree with parents absolving themselves of the reponsibility of raising and caring for their children. Television is a very powerful tool, it can be educational and entertaining, but it is not qualified to babysit.

At this point, almost nobody is watching broadcast television. It's either cable or sattelite in the vast majority of households. So, having special rules for broadcast are obsolete.

Especially since individual programs can be tagged and filtered.

Yes, you've hit the nail right on the head with this one, Ms. B.
Human Nature!...And human nature being what it is it would be wise not to let it run amok.
