" A restrictive new state law aimed at cracking down on illegal immigration has helped driver's license offices spot - and prevent - more than 1,700 attempts to obtain licenses with fake documents, a state official said.

Michael Cooke, executive director of the Colorado Department of Revenue, said during the past month, about 2,100 license applicants were told their documents needed further investigation. Of those, 177 met with investigators who later determined the applicants were legal residents, she said.

Cooke said officials don't expect to hear from many of the remaining applicants because they know their documents are fake.....

Illegal immigration laws approved during a special legislative session this summer require applicants for many state services to prove they are legally in the state before they can receive the services. Government agencies are required to use a federal database to verify applicants' identity."

I'm glad they are being caught.

What do you think?

El Indio - out of state licenses are no good for ID for services in Colorado, precisely because they are too easy to get.

That's it....I'm moving to Colorado!

It is in our national interest to protect our way of life, any other country does the same...but, for some reason...in the US you are branded a racist. It has nothing to do with race and everything to do with the laws of the land. If we had a massive and continual influx of Canadians entering and living illegally I would say the same thing.

I'm even a liberal, and I'm starting to get VERY sick of the bleeding hearts who can't see the bigger picture. It is NOT our fault that the Mexican citizenry does not hold their government accountable for the horrid economic and living conditions. And don't get it twisted.... there are plenty of rich Mexican nationals out there (they just don't share). I have a friend who visited Mexico and said that you don't really find too many Mexicans there anymore...most of them are here, what you do find are Central Americans and South Americans migrating their way up. So, don't be deluded in thinking that it will stop with the Mexicans.

Remember...corporation's profits from the illegal workforce is in the billions, and the average taxpayer foots the bill...plus the illegals drive down wages, which only hurt the already suffering middle-class.

Anyways, I am glad to seem some state is doing something...because my state (TX) is surely not doing a damn thing about it!
