Hi, My family has a LARGE history of mental illness, Two of my relatives even committed suicide, Every person in my family has been diagnosed so far, Or atleast, Has the problem (Undiagnosed). So..Um...Do they run in family's? I've been having this little problem since I was 6 and I just realised it could have came from my family genes? Whenever I do something wrong, Or feel like I am limiting someone else, I hear this voice of myself kind of...And I argue on whether or not I should be crying or feeling upset kind of like this..."Shut Up, You should'nt be upset! You are priveledged! It is SOOO selfish of you! Shut the hell up!" "I am not upset! Just go away!" "Stop it! You are too priveledged to be whining!" It kind of circles around itself...
And I have some weird paranoia thing...Hard to explain...I'm afraid to tell my parents...Last time I tried it ended up in the guilt circling around again...Is there something wrong with me?

If you come from a long line of people with mental illness you should see your physician anyway.
Everyone has that voice, but if you're constantly feeling paranoid, that's a sign of something a miss.

Yes. Mental illnesses tend to be genetic. There are other factors as well. Such as lifestyle and childhood traumas. My whole family has pretty much been diagnosed with one sort of illness or another. I did what any aquarius would though. I got a new one! My whole life I grew up with these weirdos and I kept thinking "I'm different." and "There must be something wrong with me." I was not like these people who raised me though so in that surrounding I was the crazy one. I even thought I must've been sent here by aliens from another planet. Now that I am on my own my whole perspective has changed. The only way to know if you have an illness is to see a psychologist. You know when you don't feel right. If you need help then you should ask for it. There are councelors and all sorts of people who will help you. Sometimes it just helps to talk.

studies have been done on menteal illnesses and their causes. So far researchers believe that some mental illnesses ARE genetic, but that you might not necesserily get them. For example, someone might have a genetic makeup that preordanes depression, but it does not mean that they will get depression 100%. Something in the environment usually has to happen for the illness to come out, like a large stress load, personal/world tragedies etc. These people have lower coping skills and hence are more likely to develop the illness.
However, people with NO genetic predispositions might develop a mental illness too through life experiences. They're just less likely to get them.
What you've described with yourself though seems like the symptoms of szchizophrenia, or another similar illness. I REALLY suggest finding someone who will seriously listen to you because of your family background. What you've described is not normal, and I think you should seek treatment if you think it might be a valid problem.
Is it something you can't help? You also might be "making it up" because you're thinking too much about your relatives with the illness and being too paranoid. If you start thinking about it too much, every little 'unusal' thing you do might seem blown out of proportion to you. But just to be on the safe side, see a specialist.

Some mental illnesses are know to have a famillial relationship in so far as the genes of a person my predispose them to a particular mental illness such as schitzophrenia, but this does not mean that the person will develop it. For example we know that smoking pot can cause schitzophrenia to present itself in people who are genetically predisposed. The people may not have presented the symptoms without the trigger of the pot but still would have had a genetic tendency toward the illness. If you feel that what you are going through is interfering with your daily life then seek help. The thing with many mental illnesses that involve delusions is that the person suffering them is usually unaware that their thoughts are delusional.
You seem to be well aware of what is happening, so like i said, seek help if you want but realize at the same time everyone has a conscience and has internal struggles and arguements with themselves :)
Take care.

Some are born with genetic problems but most are genetic predispositions. Take good care of yourself and you and your friend are healthy. Take bad care and he gets cancer and you have a nervous breakdown. Read this about guy who had that, was on 3 depression medications and worse than any of your relatives and how he overcame it.
What you feel is the same thing that happens with everyone even if they are not aware of it. Some numb their brain with cigarettes, alcohol, drugs, glue sniffing etc. This difficullty is called thinking. When meditating it appears (not in reality) to get worse. People in all religions meditate so they can have less of what you have. People get into diversions to escape these thoughts. See this webpage under mental issues.

The tendency toward mental illness can be inherited. I would suggest you see a professional and just talk and get some feelings out in the open. I feel for you; I've been there with both depression and anxiety. Good luck!

Mental illness is not hereditary, but it can run in families. If you are having problems and think it could be serious, which it sounds like it is, then I think you should see someone. You dont have to talk to your parents about it, but you should talk to someone about it. And who knows, it may be a simple chemical imbalance that can be easily treated with proper medication. Dont feel bad about it either, mental instability runs in many families, including my own. Good luck and I hope I helped :)

I'm not 100% sure if all mental illnesses are genetic, but I think to some degree they are. Depression runs in my family.
