The primary function of the Executive is to defend the lives of the American People.

In past wars, the Executive instructed news agencies to not report on anything that might be useful to enemies. They snooped postal letters to detect spies and grabbed people off the street for talking about military matters.

Americans understood that "Loose Lips Sink Ships".

Americans were forced to black out their homes and car headlights, to use ration books and urged to plant Victory Gardens.

Americans wanted to win!

Liberal/Left Americans today are utter WUSSES compared to real Americans - who understood how to work together to defeat an enemy.

"AS usurpation is the exercise of power, which another hath a right to; so tyranny is the exercise of power beyond right, which no body can have a right to. And this is making use of the power any one has in his hands, not for the good of those who are under it, but for his own private separate advantage. When the governor, however intitled, makes not the law, but his will, the rule; and his commands and actions are not directed to the preservation of the properties of his people, but the satisfaction of his own ambition, revenge, covetousness, or any other irregular passion.

"It is a mistake, to think this fault is proper only to monarchies; other forms of government are liable to it, as well as that: for wherever the power, that is put in any hands for the government of the people, and the preservation of their properties, is applied to other ends, and made use of to impoverish, harass, or subdue them to the arbitrary and irregular commands of those that have it; there it presently becomes tyranny, whether those that thus use it are one or many." -John Locke, a philosopher who was influential to our founding fathers.

"Those who would give up Essential Liberty to purchase a little Temporary Safety, deserve neither Liberty nor Safety"-Richard Jackson, revolutionary, contemporary of Benjamin Franklin, who printed it before first amendment rights were ensured.

I think we lost as soon as we started giving up liberty for security. The presumption of innocence for the general law abiding public, is a liberty I believe implied by the adage 'innocent until proven guilty.' Fear turned us into mere shadows of the Americans we once were. We have become the land of the universally suspected and the home of the cowed.

What form of freedom are we sacrificing? I have exactly the same amount of freedom to do what is responsible and just than I had during the Clinton and Carter administration. Provide what President Bush or the Congress is doing to deny any of my freedoms?

Do you realize that the tree that does not bend breaks? Do you realize that the world has changed and in our lust to hang on to ALL our rights we may just end up with none?.....freedom is useless if we are all dead.

I'd rather have my international phone records examined than see my little daughter's burning guts smeared all over the inside of a bus.

I see no profit from examining the phone records beyond the official explanation. Maybe you can shed light on your vague conspiracy theory?
