Okay. First, put a child's 4T-5T pull-up diaper on her and don't worry about your vet's nuisance level so much.

Second, I fully believe in allowing a dog to have at least one litter before spaying - don't anyone have a heart attack please! - because I have young children, cats, horses, a pig...I think that's it - ALL of my animals are rescued. All are healthy and well taken care of - I am a responsible pet parent! I have had multiple dogs all of my life and I can say that they are healthier - in mind, spirit AND body - after they have one litter of pups. HOWEVER - if you choose to allow her one litter, you must understand that YOU are responsible for the pups as well. All of my pups went to very loving, responsible homes where the new owners believed as I do - that once you take on the responsibility, it's yours for life. You might also have all of the information regarding spaying and neutering from vets in your area, as well as organizations that provide low-cost/no-cost to provide to the new owners.

If she already tore one dew claw you should have the other one removed as well like you have scheduled. Tell your vet she is in heat, it shouldn't complicate things but it would be best to let him/her know just in case.

Talk to your vet about the spay too. Dogs don't need to have puppies, they are healthier being spayed and you won't have to worry about this problem ever again. Female dogs do wonderful without puppies. There is no psychological or emotional need for a dog to have puppies like there is in humans. Pregnancy can seriously harm or kill your dog. Also, losing an entier litter of puppies is much harder on you AND your dog than never having them in the first place.

But, no one can make you do it. It is your decision. Dew claw removal is not a difficult surgery. It can become complicated once the claw is torn... But she should be fine.

Why would you want to breed your dog. There are already to many dogs in the world that need homes. Don't add to the problem.

And if you love your dog, you will have her spayed. It is healthier.

Get her spayed. All those hormones running through her can cause cancer. Check it out with your vet.
