I can't answer for other religions because I've only ever been Christian. When I hear someone say that are a "Practicing Christian" it implies that we aren't perfect and that we have to actively work at it until Jesus returns. We will be practicing in the mean time because we still make mistakes. Not only that, but the more you learn about whatever your faith is, the better your life should become.

They mean not just a "cultural" Jew, Christian ETC. They actually are living it out.

I can only speak for myself, but I would have to say it does take a lot of practice to be loving, kind, patient and good. I'm still practicing after 30 years and am somewhat improved at this point.

I think that they mean practicing as in:

1 a : CARRY OUT, APPLY b : to do or perform often, customarily, or habitually c : to be professionally engaged in

Rather than:

2 a : to perform or work at repeatedly so as to become proficient b : to train by repeated exercises

They are applying the teachings of the religion that they were brought up in/appeals to them instead of just believing that it's probably true and not living their life according to the tenets that the religion holds as necessary to spiritual development.

People are "practicing" if they are active participants in their religion. Some are not simply because they may identify with the religion because it's what their family was, but it ends there.

"Practicing" here doesn't mean practicing like an instrument. It refers to state of being in action, like how someone does something "in practice". As in "he says such and such but does it this way in practice...."

I say it because I feel a need to separate myself from those who only say they are Christian, but do not fellowship or worship on a consistent basis.

And yes, practicing also means that I will never get it right until my dying breathe, so that definition works also.

That's funny! I went to Christian practice for years but started missing the practices, got cut by God and became atheist.

Practicing is a loose way of stating, they are living that way of life. Or at least trying to. Whatever 'way' it might be.

practiceing means active.

many people are muslem or christian or pagan but they never go to church or preform a full moon ritual. or even pray.

these are not practiceing people.

it simply means that you are active and involved in your religion,
even if it is just on a personell level of praying to your god every day.
