Help me and my buddy settle this debate. I say Ray beats Pryor, my buddy says Pryor ko's him. If a feared puncher like Tommy Hearns couldn't knock Leonard out in 1981 when they fought, how does he think Pryor, who was a jr. welterweight, could do it? I say Leonard easily by decision. Help us out boxing fans!

I would say you have called it correctly Sugar Ray would take this one with a unanimous decision. Aaron Pryor is still definately one of the most underrated fighters around but if you look at the fact that Sugar Ray outpointed Hagler, Hearns, Duran some of the hardest hitters ever it is hard to make a case for Pryor.

Aaron the Hawk Pryor was a fierce non stop action fighter who had no fear of anyone. Leonard was a very gifted boxer with great hand speed and good power. This would have been a very exciting fight with Pryor giving Leonard all he wants. Ray would find a way to win a close decision is my call on this one.

Sugar Ray Leonard was no joke--not only was he a polished, highly skilled fighter but he was a tough SOB that could take a beating. Pryor beat the great Alexis Arguello (twice) though the first win was tainted by Panama Lewis' home mixed "energy drink". Arguello was an excellent boxer, but not in Leonard's class. Pryor could have stolen a win from Ray if his head wasn't in the fight (like Duran) but assuming that Ray was focused he'd win a UD. So if Ray/Pryor fight 10 times, Ray wins at least 8....

I wish I could say Pryor because I was a big fan of his and not much of a Leonard fan. Ray was a very smart fighter and had a way of getting even smarter for his biggest fights. I think he would have pulled this one out by a unanimous decision that was close on each scorecard (unfortunately).

It's a great question. I debated this with a friend not too long ago.
As great as Pryor was, Leonard was greater.
Leonard would have found a way to beat Pryor, the same way he did Marvin Hagler.

well its been said that ray actually ducked aaron back in the days and when they used to spar together aaron gave ray all he could handle if aaron had any of"the one i mix" like the stuff he was on when he fought arguello he would beat rayother than that my sentimental choice would be sugar ray
