all new cars are made to run on 87, even if the manual says otherwise. You may need to reset the computer by disconnecting the battery to allow it to adjust to 87 octane, but it will run fine.

Check your manual, or the on the back of the gas door. It will *run* on any octane of gas, but the engine will be tuned for a specific octane level.

If the manual recommends you use 87 octane, buying 91 octane is just a waste of money.

However, if the manual recommends you use 91 octane, you really should use 91 octane. The *will* run on 87 octane, but the retarded timing of the engine to prevent knock or pre-ignition will cause the engine to run less efficiently. You'll get fewer miles to the gallon and in most cases will end up paying *more* for 87 octane gas than you would for 91 octane (because you'll have to fill up much more often).

It will run fine on 87 octane. Toyota's have knock sensors so if you start to knock or ping on the lower grade octane then your ECU will automatically retard the timing to comensate.
