Stubbornness.

Well, it's a bit more complicated than that. Several reasons, but I'll just give a handful: 1)The general populace is afraid that a change to the metric system will result in a change to their routine. For example, will football still be played in yards, or would it now be changed to meters? [No, it wouldn't] 2) The cost of converting all our cars, roads, liquid containers, warehousing, shipping, etc., would be a logistical nightmare, 3) PLUS once you converted, the inherent differences between the older standards units and the newer metric units would cause all kinds of headaches.

I really think that the government should step and introduce the metric system GRADUALLY, so we could be in step with the rest of the world. But most politicians in there now are old school stalwarts, so you won't get them to budge.

I prefer ASE, myself and you're wrong about the rest of the world using metrics.

Perhaps you are too young to recall but the government tried ti make it voluntary in the 1970's and guess what.....it failed and failed miserably.

Besides, every country I've been in seem to understand the US dollar denominations.....
