why would you not believe in yourself, you are just as good as anyone else in the world. trust in yourself, sometimes you fall flat on your face and other times you hit the bullseye. just keep going and don't look back at your mistakes just learn from them and keep going.

Making smaller goals does help. Make a list of a goal you want to achieve each week. Pump yourself up to achieve it....make a reward that's just for you. Treat yourself to something sweet or a new shirt or cd or whatever. It's okay to reward yourself b/c you are celebrating your accomplishment. This is motivational....and with each reward and each goal achieved, you will believe more and more in yourself...until it is all the time. Just don't cannonball into it....start with your toe and wait 'till your used to the water.

Success can be as scary as failure sometimes. It's easy to not try b/c then you don't risk failing. But the truly successful do fail...a lot...they just never give up trying. Doesn't matter if you fall down, just matters that you're strong enough to get back up.

i like sammy's answer.

I have a saying that I started saying to myself back when I was repairing fans as a potentially failed electrician.

Confidence is not a prerequisite for success!
If A+B=C then it will do so regardless of how I feel about it.

Therefore if i know how; I should just get it done. And my reward will be confidence! Confidence is born from experience.

Since i started believing in A+B I have moved from a successful carreer as an electrician to that of a senior engineer with a physics degree! I still don't entirely believe in myself but I do believe that if I start and I have knowledge; then I will finish!

Steps:
1. Take stock of your strengths. Review what you are good at and tasks you excel at.

2. Think of things you can do or projects you can undertake that use and develop these strengths.

3. Reflect honestly on your weaknesses - but instead of dwelling on how lazy, mean, disorganized or passive you are, commit to change. Brainstorm specific things you can do to overcome the flaws you believe you have.

4. Survey your environment. Is a friend, family member or co-worker criticizing you unjustly? Distance yourself from this person or resolve not to let his or her opinion affect you.

5. Act confidently. People will sense your self-confidence and respond positively to you, strengthening your image and self-image all at once.

Tips:
The key to positive self-esteem is to remember that you have control over your situation: When feeling glum about a character flaw, remind yourself that you can take action to change yourself and shape your future.

Try not to base judgments of yourself on others' perceptions, which can be fickle.

Give yourself some concrete evidence that you can achieve. Go out and do something to be proud of: help the needy; tutor your little sister; volunteer at an animal shelter. We believe in ourselves when we learn that we can finish a task and finish it well.

After you get a couple of things to be proud of, you will find it easier to believe in yourself.

Look back at your life and see where that may have begun. Did someone in your family say you wouldn't be able to do something? Or did you have a parent that did too much for you and you didn't build up your own self-esteem by doing things yourself?

U know what... get a FRIEND who can also provide umm... ENCOURAGE you. :) ... I know my friend Kimmy... she really know what she wants to do, but everyone around her keeps saying she can't, she can't.... well she stopped listening to them, always confided in me and let me know her feelings, and u know what... she's doing much better cuz she can air it all out. She gets her motivation from people who encourage her, and from people who attempt to work on their goals as well. So yeah... Just always believe in yourself! Never say you can't. If you have that train of thought U'll never get where you want to be. GOOD LUCK! :)

Don't set high goals, set lower, short term goals for yourself and work your way up to loftier ones. Good luck!
