There are good rescue organizations-call one of them. Don't just give him to ANYONE!

I live in Overland Park, Ks. Do you know we have a very active Golden Retriever Club and rescue in the area? Maybe they can help you.

Why did you not think of this before bringing this dog into your life? Now you are going to stress him out by putting him in a new home. I would not give him away for free, I would find a golden retriever rescue group. Search the internet. Also do not take him to the pound, animals that are taken there only have a 10% chance of living. Which is very sad. But irresponsible people are to blame.

I commend you for being so honest. It is more caring to find him a good home than to neglect his needs.
There are lots of good options. You could take him to a SPCA or other shelter. There also might be a Golden Retriever rescue in your area or near you. There may also be an online place that you can list him. One I've seen is Petfinder.com.
Please be careful of who you let take or purchase him. There are people who do not have your dog's best interests in mind. They may want to use him for profit or other repre- hensible purposes. If in doubt about someone you can ask them for references or choose to not let him go if something just doesn't seem right.
Good Luck in your efforts!

I guess you didn't do your homework 8 months ago. Don't ever give a pet away for free. People that truely want a animal will pay something.

If you are unable to sell him, please look online for no-kill shelters or golden retriever rescues in your area that would be more than happy to take him off your hands for you and you will be safe in those choices knowing he will not be harmed. They do not euthanize animals and they screen potential adoptors for suitable homes.

Put an ad in your local paper and do some checking into the people who want him.

Post a for sale sign at the local kennel or your vet's office.

Advertise in the newspaper. And sell him for the going rate for his breed. Then you will know that his new owner will want him and care for him. Good for you, admitting that you aren't able to care for him.
