I've tried over hand and under hand but I am not getting enough power. Is there a different stategy I can use or do I just need to gain more strength?

Well i play power for my high school senior team ... coincidence i have a practise after school tommorow :P

but to answer your question try underhand serve.... and since you prolly dont have that much strenght make your fist tight as in a knuckle kinda thing and hold the ball until your hand reaches under neath ...It takes a bit of practise

Dont try Overhand serves until you are taller and stronger...

Now that im on the senior team we have to jump serve which is very difficult

anyways goodluck!!

You've already answered your own question. Being 4'6" doesn't have anything to do with it. Having a powerstroke does. What you need to do is practise, practise, practise. Ask your teacher or coach for some pointers -- for example, how to hold your hand. Are you using a flat palm or the side of a folded fist? Are you stepping forward into the stroke when you serve or just standing still?
There are lots of ways to improve your serve, but the bottom line is just to keep working at it. You'll get there!

what you can do is first practice to throw the ball over the net, once u build enough strength to easily throw it over, practice hitting the ball with all ur strength by throwing ur body into it. There is no need to worry about accuracy at first, you're just building up your strength.
Pracitce, practice, practice. If you can work out in the gym, or push ups to build upper body strength.

WOW you are really short!!
I thought I was short and I am a foot and two inches taller then you.
Sorry. Anyway it is all in the snap. I know a girl who is like the weakest person I know and she can serve the ball harder then anyone I know and she never works out. She just hits the ball so fast.

you practically answered you own question....height does help you out...but you need a strong upper body to be able to serve. I would weightlift and then keep practicing underhand serving...once you get good at underhand serving, you should start trying to do some overhand serving....you should start working on your serve now because the older and more competive you get, the more important your serves are!!!!

with overhand serves. start at about 10 feet from the net. and when u are consistantly getting it over. take a few steps back and serve again until u get it constantly over. repeat this taking a few steps back each time. until you reach the serving line

you just need to gain more strength and you also need to have a practice because practice makes perfect
