I think this is a pretty weird thing to be asking, but I asked a girl out this week and I'm wondering how to make it seem like it's more formal, rather than just friends getting together. She's become a friend of mine, but I want something more than that. How can I get this accross to her?

First of all, you need to pick her up at her front door. Drive to her house, get out of the car, and knock on the door. Honking the horn or meeting her there isn't the best way to start what you want to be a romantic evening.
Having some kind of flower(s) is a big bonus too. Only twice have I gotten flowers on the first date, and both relationships lasted over a year (I'm married to the second one.)
Open the car door for her to get in. Hold it open until after she is seated, and then close it. Do this throughout the night as often as possible. Good manners are more important that you think.
When you are out, offer to pay for as much as possible. Let her know gently that you asked so therefore you pay. If she insists on going dutch (she pays half) then try to find something small that you could buy or do for her during the night to make it special. Even buying the popcorn at a movie is a step in the right direction.
At the end of the night, walk her to her door. Thank her for the date and the good time. Wait until she has the door open before you walk away. And don't get in the car until she is totally inside. It shows that you care and want to make the evening last. She will know that you are concerned about her safety and well being.
The next day, call her and thank her again. Tell her you would like to go out again. Ask her when would be a good time. This lets her know that you are sincere.

Well, ya hardly ever get past thefriend stage unless your young. How long have you known each other?
Have your previous dates been each pay their own way, you could let her know you'd like to treat her to the next date, and ask when that could be.

it is rather easy for a girl to slip in to being friends with a guy rather then date them. It's safer for her because no emotions are involved. if you want her to clue in your are going to have to sit down and talk to her face to face and see how she feels.
