Quick question:

I have a box filled with used batteries and light bulbs because didn't California passed a law a while ago stating that it was illegal to throw these things in the trash? Where do I throw these things out then? Anybody really following this law anyway? What will happen if I do throw them away in the trash can?
Thanks

It's not illegal to toss light bulbs, just batteries. If the waste management company finds them in your trash, you'll be fined. They leach toxins into the landfill.

You can drop them off at Walgreens and some other places. Let me investigate.

OK, just use this site. Put in your zip code and it will tell you where you can take them for recycling.

I did`nt know about light bulbs and I had been throwing them in the trash all the time I lived in Ca. The small batteries from like the tv channel selector or toys heck those too....Sure glad I moved....I would ask the trash collectors on the trucks that haul your trash or better yet call your city hall and they should be able to tell you whwere to take them!!!!Good Luck to you

They should make this easier for us. Did you know they tack on 12 bucks extra when you buy a TV? It is a recycling fee, but you can't just throw it away. Argh!

There are places to recycle batteries. Your local drugstore and pretty much any electronics/camera store has recycling areas too.

Well if you throw them in a public dumpster and nobody sees you how could they catch you?
