For several years now, I have had migraines, but during this past week they have been much worse and continuous. I had been taking prescribed migratine capsules, but as they weren't helping at all, I stopped taking them. Today, I had really bad menstral cramps (which is a normal occurence for me), so I took ibuprofen to help. However, after about an hour the cramps were still as painful as ever. About two hours after the cramping had started, I broke out into a cold sweat and started feeling really chilly (in addition to the worsening pain fo the cramps). Shortly thereafter, I started losing my ability to see and function (everything turned bright white and I wasn't able to stand or walk properly). All I could see during the next hour or so were brief glimpses or the same bright whiteness with outlines of certain objects around me. Is this simply because of the cramps or is it more to with my migraine? And no, my migraines are not the result of stress.

Thanks!

See a doctor, this isn't characteristic of cramps or migraines

I would see the doctor, but it might be a not very serious condition. There is a condition called ocular migraines, I think it is, or optical migraines? I had this about three times, and that's what my eye doctor said it was. For about an hour each time, I had a blind spot that blocked out about 1/6 of my field of vision, just grey and nothing there. Then it went away spontaneously. I was in my 30s at the time. So, I wonder if it is a variety of a migraine symptoms in you - but do ask your doctor.

This site mentions one's cycle as connected to ocular migraines http://www.healthcentral.com/encyclopedia/408/226/Ocular_Migraine.html

Please call your doctor & also make an appointment right away.

MIGRAINES: Sorry I don't know anything about this.

CRAMPS: Try to avoid taking anything --if you can do so-- for monthly cramps. For menstrual cramps, about a week before my period, I would do exercises to strengthen muscles in the abdominal area: crunches and leg lifts. (After the blood clots pass, cramps would disappear) Pain is similar to childbirth except with childbirth, it is more intense and contractions lasted longer. If I forgot to do the exercises one month, I would certainly get the cramps; then I usually took something I think it was called Midol: That was in the old days.

You must see a doctor right away.

You are having some vascular or circulation problems in the cranium. It is possible there are lesions, also.

You may have some intestinal or other thoracic internal bleeding, also.

Don't wait until you feel better -- see a doctor.

I don't know if you use tampons or not but the symptoms sound like TSS.Which is very dangerous and should be treated by a doctor promptly as it can be fatal. You should talk to your doctor about your current problems and maybe he/she can change your meds to better suit you.Hope this helps.Good luck!
