I am getting a puppy that will weigh no more than 15 pds. I need a pet cage and I found one that is 24 in. Is that enough?

It depends how long you are planning on sing the crate for. the size should only be an issue if it tis too small for the animal. the puppy shuld be able to fit in comfortably. once it is old enough, it shouldn't need a crate o transport it. i fyou are just using it to get the puppy home, a cardboard box and towles would be sufficient.
Good luck with the puppy.

A 15 pound dog will do fine in a 24 inch crate, but if you want to be absolutely safe, buy a LifeStages brand crate the next size up. They come with dividers so you can keep the crate just big enough for the dog to stand up, turn around, and lay down stretched out.

Happy crate training!

Crate training is so very important for any dog. Training young is the best. This will be your dogs comfort zone. You want the crate to be just big enough to sleep and turn around. To large of a crate at a young age will cause them to potty in there home. You can always get a bigger crate when the dog is housebroke. You can also put a divider in a larger crate and remove it later. Remember NEVER leave a collar on a dog in a crate. It can get caught and hung in the crate.

I would suggest you get a cage that is medium sized. I would also make sure that when you buy your cratem, you make sure it comes with a divider in it. If the crate is too big for your dog, it might use one end for soiling, and the other for sleeping. If you get a divider, you can adjust it so it just barely fits your dogs size. Dividers are like little gates that you can get that go in dog crates so if you have a puppy that will grow big but is small because of its age, then you can just put the gate in the middle of the gate so that you rpuppy is comfortable but not so comfortable it will soil its bed. Good Luck!

My dog is the same weight but it depends on height. My crate is 30in x 22in & 25in high which is more than big enough. The next size down was too low as when they sit their head comes up quite high. He sleeps in it every night and can be left in it alone for a few hours during the day if outside conditions are bad.

He was a stray and not properly housetrained so it came in handy for that. He has never gone to the toilet in it. I think he is 21 in to top of head.

Good luck with your new puppy!

Small is good. They love close comfort but they also love the lamb skin that you buy at the pet shop and can cut. Puppies love the comfort of confinement. I bought my Louis Vuitton 12 years ago for my dog and put him in that everyday and zipped just like the cage, he is now 12 and wants in the LV everyday. It is like his bedroom, his haven. Absolutely cage train him. Reward him when the puppies goes to the bathroom with cheese or a cookie and if not he goes to his cage. Eventually it is just like a kid who is bad it becomes the room. They learn to love it.

You want your pet's crate to be big enough for him to stand up in and turn around in, but not too big or he will use the bathroom in it! You can always start with that size and get a bigger one if he outgrows it.
