Your native language obviously. But if you are looking to learn a foreign language...you might think about how you want to use it once you do. For instance, are there any countries that you wish to visit...learn that language first. If you have an ambition or drive behind the 2nd language you are learning, you will do better studying it. ; )

Hope this helps.

PS I know French, German and Russian as well as English. : )

It really depends. If you speak absolutely no language then I have no idea. However since you speak English, the 2 next easiest languages to learn would be French and German in that order. While English does have many other languages incorporated into it, it mostly is made up of French and German with there being just a little more French.

The easiest language to speak and learn is Esperanto. It's an artificial language --that is, it was created by linguists, and meant to become a universal language that everyone could adopt and by speaking a common language, the world would break out in peace because we could all understand each other. Unfortunately, that never happened, but there are still people who teach Esperanto. Unfortunately, although it is an easy language to speak and learn, not very many people currently speak it, so there won't be a wide audience to converse with.

My husband and I have learned Spanish and Russian. My husband also speaks German. He actually says it is easy for English speakers to learn German. I agree, that German is easier. Although Spanish is not that hard either. In addition, you would have more opportunities to speak Spanish in the US.

If you would like to explore other methods of learning I would also suggest these products that have helped us. We use BOTH the Rosetta Stone (a computer program) and the Pimsleur Method (audio cd's). These two are the best things on the market.

Each approaches learning the language a different way. And I have found using both really helps round out my learning.

The Pimsleur method is super fast and the best to start with. You are given 30 minute lessons you listen and speak with. You start with basic and keep adding until you are able to have a full conversion.

Rosetta Stone will help with reading and the grammer. I found this to help complete what I was learning with Pimsleur.

If you have to choose only one.. go with Pimsleur. You will be able to have conversations very quickly.

There are many online sites that teach German for free...

Any person organizing on traveling to a Spanish-speaking country sometime in the next months or so have to make a program so that can make a dissent conversation in Spanish or just to realize when folks talk to them since by the time your trip rolls all around you should be conversationally fluent or pretty close to it with the support

I believe it is the first language you learn around your parents and sibling and mine were norwegian and by the time I learned how to spell they switch to the English Language...I could not speak English until I started school...I suffered from teasing and calling me names which I said I would never do this to my child and I raised 5. Never in my life would I do this to any child........
