Most breeds have a "standard" size, which is actually an ideal size set by the American Kennel Club, and may not reflect reality.
For example, I have two Siberian Huskies. One is standard size (37 pounds) and one is way over standard (84 pounds). Most people, even at dog shows, will ask if the smaller one is a puppy (she's not, she's actually the standard height too), since a Sibe that small is almost never seen.
Males tend to be larger and heavier than females for most if not all breeds. For a good indication of how large a puppy will actually get, ask how big the parents are.

If you can handle the energy level-Border Collies. Or Australian Shepherds. For both breeds the females typicall ride around 40 lbs and the males around 60lbs. Australian Shepherds would be more of a guard dog for you, while Border Collies would hold the door open for the robers to steal everything in your house.

Any breed that falls into the medium-sized group should fit into that weight span.
Cocker Spaniel, Beagle, Shiba Inu, Small Basset, Boxers might be a little more than that - but close, Australian Shepherds, Blue Heelers (also known as Australian Cattle dogs), Shelties, hmmm, guess my mind went blank.

This is a very common weight range in dogs...There are so many choices...Why don't you call your local animal shelter and ask what they have in that range? I bet you can find your dream dog there....
