I wondered if anyone had any ideas on how to effectively and not too unhealthily gain weight through food. What type of diet should I have or things I could do? Thanks...

There are lots of mass gainer protein supplements you can take that include lots of calories intended to help you gain weight. These are far healthier than junk food, as they are actually "nutritious". Look for products using Malodextrin as a source of carbs, which is a more steadily-releasing sustained carb than sugary sweet (and bad for you) sucrose, glucose, etc so you don't get that sugar rush followed by an energy crash. You can increase your calories significantly with these specialized types of protein powders, as they are intended even for big bodybuilders looking to bulk up and gain quick mass. One suggestion is to try several brands of mass gainers, since some are quite thick and you might find them hard to swallow. If you are working our regularly, you might instead try micellar protein powders that specialize more in "lean mass" like Muscle Milk. Look for "micellar" in the product description. These products are higher in fat yet contain ingredients that help you stay more cut and not as blobby as long as you are working out. If not working out, the micellar proteins will make you gain tummy size/weight though. You can get either the mass gainer proteins or the micellar proteins at your local sports nutrition store (ie: GNC).

Add a weight gaining shake to your diet. Easy to eat an extra 1000 calories a day with those, or even more if you like. Relatively healthy too.

When I lost a lot of weight due to a surgery, a dietitian told me to drink "Boost". Believe me, it works! It has like thousands of calories in it and loaded with a ton of vitamins and minerals. Careful though, you can gain a lot pretty fast, however I think it is the healthiest way. You can also team it up with peanut butter which is a good way to gain healthy weight also.

Some effective healthy techniques are to eat a lot of nuts (almonds, cashews, etc.), yogurt, and carbs such as pasta. You could try the GNC WeightGainer shake but I am not sure about how healthy it is.
