I know someone who said this happened to him, but he wasn't sure if he was just freaking out or if his airways really were closing. Does this mean he might be allergic to it?

Well THC is a known bronchiodilator and expectorant, so either he smokes TOO MUCH in general (including tobacco maybe) or else he is allergic. Too much smoke in your lungs, even pot smoke, is never good. Trust me, I live in Phoenix.
Maybe he feels something weird because he is baked, and thinks they might be closing.

Could be an allergy. Could also be asthma, triggered by the smoke. Asthma is swelling of the airways in response to an irritant.

Raw un filtered smoke in the lungs...hmmm, can't imagine why your "friend" would be having a problem.

Could be an allergy to cannibus...smoke...the ingredients that may also be in with it.........or paranoia, frequently a side effect of marijuana usage.

because when you inhale pot smoke it expands.
thats why you have to cough to get off.
try taking smaller hits.
