Yes, every Indian must sing it.
The original song had compared India to Godess Duga & Goddess Kali but the part which was adopted as the national song has absolutely no religious elements. Look at the translation below -
Mother, I bow to thee!
Rich with thy hurrying streams,
bright with orchard gleams,
Cool with thy winds of delight,
Dark fields waving Mother of might,
Mother free.
Glory of moonlight dreams,
Over thy branches and lordly streams,
Clad in thy blossoming trees,
Mother, giver of ease
Laughing low and sweet!
Mother I kiss thy feet,
Speaker sweet and low!
Mother, to thee I bow.
Infact, the Madrasa Board of Chattisgarh has issued an order asking all madrasas to sing on the 7th. A Muslim scholar has translated it to Udru 4 the Muslims & said there was nothing objectionable in it. That explains it all, doesn't it?

This is a good song but sounds more like a Hindu prayer than a national song. Overemphasis will have the same negative impact as the way Islam is getting these days.
Every region and community has compiled patriotic songs in their own language.India is multicultural and multilinguistic.Leave alone the ordinary indians, how many leaders and parliamentarians can sing any single line beyond the slogan "Vande Mataram"?.Can we honestly say that it does not have Hindutvaistic religious undertones?.

Actually this song was composed in the 19th century at the time of freedom struggle by a patriotic poet.It has NOTHING to do with RELIGION.I cant say because I'm a Hindu or Muslim or Christian or any other religion ,Iam not a patriot.Love to the nation don't have any barrier. Its just like loving your parents.
So as Indian nobody should have hesitation in singing this song.

I never thought about our national song as related to any religion. First of all, if some of the Muslims think that it is related to Hinduism, then I would like to remind them of some points.
1. long long ago, Indians were the first human beings to talk and to write, that is in Sanskrit. to the Muslims in India, your ancestors were probably Hindus, who later converted to Islam.
This discussion is just some stupid thing that is brought up by the political leaders to rise up fights between Hindus and Muslims.
what i mean is that I am not intending to get into a fight with anyone. Just letting some of you know the hidden truths.

Forcing someone to act patriotic at the expense of their religious faith is useless and immoral. There are others ways to show love of one's country other than singing a particular song.
India has such big and pressing problems. Why make a big deal of this when the answer is so simple: just respect each other's faith and let each individual decide for her/himself whether to sing or not.
End this diversion now, and get to solving the real problems!

actually i never knew the meaning of the song until i saw someone posted the meaning of the song. i guess it contains names of Hindu dieties, no wonder(rolls eyes). may be u should let them be. i mean, wont u have a problem saying Allah is the Greatest or singing a song that says bow down to Allah.? same way man.
also some one pointed out that THE SONG IS INCOMPLETE. so why do u wanna sing an incomplete song. hey i thought ur country was a free one without any probs, how wrong of me.
hey dude!!!!!!!!!!! tell ur countrymen that LOVE FOR THE COUNTRY SHOULD BE IN UR HEARTS NOT IN THE SONGS U SING- esp IF THE SONG IS INCOMPLETE.

"Vande Mataram" symbolises patriotism and comitment to independence. It has nothing whatsoever to do with any religion.
