Shingles is a herpes zoster infection, it will remain dormant within certain nerves forever. If you have some type of weaking occurance to your immune system like infection or even highly stressful situations it will re-emerge usually within the pathway of that nerve.

Yes. Shingle is just cronic chicken pox, so if you get shingles once, then you have really had chicken pox twice. It will most certainly return.
