Ancestor worship is not recommended in Bhagavad Gita..

"Those who worship the demigods will take birth among the demigods; those who worship the ancestors go to the ancestors; those who worship ghosts and spirits will take birth among such beings; and those who worship Me will live with Me." (Bhagavad Gita 9.25)

Why do you want to go to your Ancestor? One does not actually know where their ancestors may be... If they have landed up in hell would you like to go there to them?

Krishna says to worship him. By doing so you can go to His place in the Spritual world where there is no suffering, and you also pull your ancestors there by requesting God.

There is However Pinda Dana which is still recommended. This is Vishnu worship that is done for Dead Relatives.
We worships Lord Vishnu and offers Vishnu Prasad to the dead relatives... Vishnu Prasad is transcendental and can reach even dead relatives where ever they are...

This helps the dead relatives, especially if they have landed in Ghostly body or Hell. This worship of Pinda Dana frees them from Sin and helps them..

You can get it done in any Vishnu Temple or Hare Krishna temple around the world. Many people perform Hari nama Sankirtana for their dead relatives. In this age this yagna of Sankirtana is the most benificial. This is Confirmed in Srimad Bhagavatam.
