My older sister is getting married soon, and since I am a stereotypical broke college student I don't have a whole lot of money to spend on a wedding gift. I already got her something from her gift registry, however I want to do something special and personalized. Any ideas for under $40 or so?

A "wedding night" basket.....you go to the only a dollar store, and you pick up..bubble bath, bath crystals, lotions, powders, pretty soaps, candles, candle holders, a wicker basket....
Then go to Walmart buy a 1/2 material to line the basket with(I use their favorite color or the color the bride choose for the wedding) and ribbons that go along with the color, line the basket and arrange all the goodies in the basket after tying ribbons on the bottles...
I usually add something that the bride likes for example..one collects CareBears, a unicorns, butterflies(I got a hairclip, earrings) just a little personal gift...

For my daughter, I did hers, I had a beautiful ivory nightie, perfume, jewerly, a pair of sexy slippers, a bottle of wine and 2 wine glasses...

You can spend as little as $20 a have a beautiful gift or fill the basket to overflowing..it's something that personal and something just for the bride. You can do a couple's baskets, I even do a groom's pail. I use a pail, and put aftershave, razor, toothbrush & paste, mouth wash..a pair of handcuffs...always good for a laugh!

You can even do a naughty basket, those are fun, I did one of those for a my daughter and son-in-law.....I hope you know your sister will love anything you do for her, because you did with love in your heart, and you are wishing her all the best and lots of happiness.........

God bless us all................

Find a picture of the two of you as very young children, in the bath together, dressed up for a holiday, having a tea party, something sweet where the two of you are loving and close. Blow it up into a 8x10 put it into one half of a double frame. Then at the wedding, have a special pic taken of the two of you with the intention of putting it into the other side.

Make her a scrapbook or memory book of pictures, items, etc from the days leading up to the wedding and the wedding itself. Everything from the invitation to a business card from the restaurant where she has the rehearsal dinner (assuming that is happening) to pictures of her getting ready to dried flowers from the big day... give this to her on her one month anniversary. It would be a wonderful and welcome surprise.

Collect up funny, meaningful, interesting photographs of your sister as she was growing up, place the photographs in an album with story cards (get your parents and family to help you tell each pictures story) for each picture and give to her and her new husband... It will cost you very little money and will mean the world to them both...

You can find a meaningful picture of the two of you, maybe as children, and have it framed. It is inexpensive but it can mean a lot to her, particularly if you are close.
